City of Dreams Mediterranean is the Cyprus’ first integrated casino resort, the only one of its kind in Europe, which is expected to be the largest and premier integrated destination resort in Europe.
EB/Architects supported a contractors’ JV competing for the construction of the project by providing technical and BIM implementation services.
EB/A’s primary task was to calculate the quantities included in the BoQ used for the estimation of the submitted financial offer, for the architectural, as well as the concrete and steel structural works of the project.
For this purpose, mainly, a composite Building Information Model has been created based on the Tender Drawings and Specifications provided by the Client in pdf format, and then imported in Autodesk Navisworks software.
A project specific plug-in has been developed to facilitate the integration of the BoQ Tables created in Excel to the respective catalogs supporting the take-off process in Navisworks’ Quantification Manager. WBS numbers were used as parameter values that linked the elements of the models with the respective BoQ catalog items in Navisworks, were formulas have been applied for the calculation of the required quantities. Finally, quantities were exported in excel where visual basic macros were applied to populate the BoQ quantities’ cells.
This was the biggest project ever for which BIM-BoQ integration has been applied by a Greek consulting team, and this is an accomplishment yet to be surpassed.
The created Revit models have also been used for the creation of slides visualizing the construction progress at specific milestones, as a supporting material of the contractors’ JV competition entry.
This entry has been, in the event, a successful one and the City of Dreams Mediterranean is already in its construction phase.
