BIM Management & Coordination Services for the new Dubai Electricity & Water Authority Headquarters

The new headquarters of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), named Al-Shera'a (Arabic for sail), will be the tallest, largest, and smartest net Zero Energy Building (ZEB) in the world, where the total energy used in the building during a year is equal to or less than the energy produced on site.

EB/Architects were invited by the main consultant Obermeyer ME to provide BIM Coordination services with a scope covering more than 25 BI Models created by 5 main consultancies and with the principal task of accomplishing a clash-free federated model to be provided as a proof of constructability and a point of reference to the contactor of the project.

To address the challenge of hundreds of thousands of conflicts that appeared as the outcome of the Clash Detection analysis, EB/Architects developed a pioneering method that introduced a tree-like reporting system for the comprehension, filtering, prioritization, management and eventually resolution of the coordination issues.

This innovative system that replaced the usually applied tabular format of clash detection results, due to its clarity, transparency and overall functionality, eventually became a major confidence builder and a reliable proof for the constructability of this remarkable project.
